Midwest College & Career Retreat • May 25 - 26, 2012

This was our first ever Midwest College & Career Retreat, and God did exceeding abundantly above all we could have asked or thought in every way–weather, facilities, activities, food, schedule, fellowship, worship, sessions, etc. God gave us two beautiful days and four delicious meals, and the group that joined us ministered to one another with incredible encouragement and joy. Conversations lasted late into the night on Friday, and God energized us for a full and fun Saturday. A highlight of both days was the worship service before each session–God refreshed our spirits with a faith-filled vision of Christ and His glorious gospel through both group singing and some great musical offerings.
Brian Trainer took four sessions to walk us through I Corinthians 8-10 in an incredibly clear, concise, and compelling manner (notes below), and I know that every heart there was stirred and convicted. Brian saved the best for last, concluding our time in those chapters with a ringing challenge from John 12:24-25. From that passage, we were reminded that before you can have a fruitful life, you must have a selfless death. Brian summarized the heart of God in that passage this way: "God says, 'No excuses, no reason, no rights, no perception of cost. I want it all! Jump in My hand and let Me crush you, and you will bring forth fruit.'" What a thrill to see God tenderize all of our hearts and create in us a burning desire to be His disciples, proclaiming Him as "Lord" with our lips and with our lives! Now, we trust God for grace to follow in obedience. In summary, we praise God for an overwhelmingly profitable retreat! May Christ be honored as we live out the many meditations that we enjoyed together, and may God be pleased to reunite us again in 2013!
