Non-Singles Only
Dear non-single,
Okay, so this page really isn't just for non-singles. However, this page does have a different twist to it. While all the other pages on this site have to do with how singles can stay connected to and involved in the lives of other believers in the local church, this page is concerned with how the local church can stay connected to and involved in the lives of singles. Ministry and encouragement should always be a two-way street—you and I need to be ministering to and encouraging others, and we also need to be ministered to and encouraged ourselves. That's the thrust of Hebrews 3:13 and 10:24-25. As the Young Adults (i.e., singles) Pastor, I take seriously our responsibility as a ministry of the local church to humbly serve and be challenged by the body of Christ. But, I've also noticed that the singles in the church are sometimes overlooked in "one another" ministry and spiritual accountability. Perhaps because they are "still single," those in this life-stage are sometimes forgotten or by-passed. Perhaps because they are "still young," they are regarded as "still in training" for ministry they will one day have. And so, kind of by default, the thinking is that the college and career group should minister to and be mentored by the rest of the body. While such a conclusion is certainly correct, it doesn't capture the whole picture. The New Testament's teaching on spiritual gifts, its incessant call for cross-generational "one another" ministry, and its understanding of the nature of the church help to fill out that picture. We discover our need to reciprocate encouragement to our singles, both by learning from them and by ministering to them. And so, while this page is certainly not intended to be an indictment, it will hopefully serve as a source of information about how non-singles can minister to and encourage singles within the body of Christ. We need you, friend, and I believe you need us. May we point each other to Christ our Savior, whom we both need most! |
